Stray

These walls of time
set the boundaries,
draw the lines
which have already
been crossed.

I’m not a piece
to be picked up
and placed
where viewed to be best fit,
rather an individual
with my own beliefs.

I’ll shred
these undefined obstacles
and pave the way
for a new road,
one that cuts
through false barriers
of insecurity
and travels on
in the direction I choose,
with no signs and signals
to decide what is right.
My past mistakes
don’t define me,
yet to overlook them
is to never grow,
to fall behind
in a world
of constant motion.

Labels brand people
by false names,
depict characteristics
and standards to live by,
where conformity
has replaced individuality.

My past mistakes
don’t define me
as I look
towards a future
of opportunity.
